What is damascene?

Toledo damascene, popularly known as ‘Toledo gold’, is work done by hand or machine to inlay 24-carat gold or silver on steel. Following the Arab tradition, Toledo continues to create its most popular handicraft, the art of damascen.

At ARTESANÍA MORALES, most of our products are made entirely by hand by the distinguished artisans currently working in our workshops. One of the most important masters that Toledo has ever known, Miguel Nombela, worked exclusively for us for 44 years. His work keeps his memory fresh and his pieces are available at our establishments.

The damascene articles we make include:

  • Damascene articles in gold, silver or a combination of the two.
  • Plates, pictures, letter openers, mirrors and all kinds of products made with this technique.
  • Decorative and gift items.
